Today I did a 10 minute demo JSON and how you can use it to bridge win and web applications. The content and code covered in the demo is available in a separate blog post. It was great fun to present again and it was a decent sized crowd, and I got some good feedback after the demo as well. Even turned out to be two fellow Norwegians among the attends which was fun and a bit surprising.

There are a bunch of pictures from the launch event available on the "Heroes Happens Here" Flickr site. I've included a couple of them here as well. I think my next speaking engagement will be at the CodeCampOz coming up in April. I've submitted an abstract which is hopefully going to get accepted. Also planning on getting more involved with the Victoria .NET user group. I attend their last meeting which was great! Hopefully I'll get a chance to present there this fall (or spring if you're on the northern hemisphere).

If you have any questions or comments related to the content covered today, feel free to post them on the blog . Hopefully I'll be able to help out.

Great seeing your presentation yesterday Jonas, it was very well put together and presented! I was there taking notes on my Linux powered N810... :)

Speaking as a long time ColdFusion developer who's now finally starting to dabble i.e. work in .net, JSON's support in .net and Studio'08 looks pretty solid.

On the topic of Norwegians, Melbourne is a fantastic place to settle ... permanently. I coming up on my 8th anniversary! :D

I am trying a few things today with Virtual eart and wanted tom know if we could pass the whole address instead of latititde and longitude? Can you provide me with an example please?

Dhaval: The best place to get started with Virtual Earth is the "Virtual Earth Interactive SDK". It's an online site with samples covering most of the key features of Virtual Earth. It also provides links if you need to dig a little deeper into the SDK. The Interactive SDK is available at: http://dev.live.com/virtualearth/sdk/

So for your actuall question: Check the "Find Information - Find a location" sample on the SDK, as well as the article on Finding Things with Virtual Earth at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259692.aspx

Personally I find the address look-up search in VirtualEarth a bit weaker than Google Maps. So if you have a list of addresses you might want to write two versions, one that use Google Maps and one that uses VirtualEarth, and pick the one that gives you the best results.

I find the VirtualEarth API cleaner and easier to work with, but you shouldn't have any problems getting started with Google Maps.

Jørgen Smith: Thanks for the comment! You have that N810? That's just awsome! Nokia and Microsoft just announced that they will support Silverlight on the Nokia N40, N60 as well as the "tablets". Haven't tried the device, but it looks smokin hot!

As a ColdFusion developer I can imagine it's a bit of a transition, but Microsofts web development stack is really sollid. With the new ASP.NET MVC framework in the works it's going to get even better (as a ColdFusion developer you might not be to happy with the post-back, view-state, web form moddel in ASP.NET today) :)

Doubt I'll settle in Melbourne, but I'll def. going to ejoy my year down under!

Yeah the N810 is awesome, especially if coupled with e.g. a slimline bluetooth 3G phone and a handy internet plan (I'm still waiting for that bit..). The OS platform and e.g. ability to run a SSH server and install a wide range of apps makes it quite an impressive device. Sometimes it'll slow down a bit when attempting something complex, and it is not going to render certain pages as fast as your desktop, but that's pretty much to be expected and (for me) thus not a problem. (Adblock plus and flashblock would be a strong recommendation as such).

I bought the Nokia N810 in particular for ereading with its 225DPI (or so) screen but have since found many other applications; e.g. seeing a satellite view of where you are with maemo mapper has an unbelievable geek factor when driving around.

Now, back on topic, I'm looking forward to checking out the new MVC framework - any good pointers? It the past 3-4 years I've been using Mach-II for ColdFusion, which sets some pretty good development standards. But yes, it gets old after a while, and in the choice between more java work and .net I must admit that the .net route looks a lot more appealing. Before making a total transition I will probably investigate JNBridge for integrating the two; this comes as part of CF8 enterprise.

Whilst I will always look back on my 12 years of Textpad with great fondness I think that Studio 08 is really something else. And now having a heavily overclocked quad core workstation, it (almost) seems fast enough too! (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Mvh,
Jørgen

Jørgen: I think this post: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ASPNETMVCPreview2ScreencastTutorials.aspx would be a great starting point. The MIX08 conference kicked off in Las Vegas yesterday, and one of the announcements where a new MVC preview build. Scott have some intro tutorials, and links out to other pieces of information. Another excellent blog to follow is Scott Guthries blog over at http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/. He'll probably do some serious posting on ASP.NET MVC in the days to come.

The reason I'm suggesting checking out ASP.NET MVC is that it will probably provide a smoother transition for a developer with your background. ASP.NET Web Forms is a bit "strange" at first, and really abstract away the "core" pieces of a web app (HTML/CSS/Scripts), while the ASP.NET MVC gives you great control over the HTML outputed, but at the same time facilitates testing, seperation of concernes and good app design (following the MVC pattern).

So to the off topic stuff: 240DPI is a serious screan. Must be really crisp. Personally I'm thinking about getting the Amazon Kindle device as a e-book, but might just wait to the next revision. Currently you only get the full experience with wireless download of content if you're in the US... The "whisper net" features are not supported outside US yet.

Greeting. One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things.
I am from Libya and now study English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "If you use this method frequently, even before you start to sweat, you will combat your excessive sweating problem long before it has happened."

Thank you so much for your future answers ;). Brady.
