Sharm el Sheikh, diving, fly fishing and sign of life

July 22nd 2007

dykking.jpgIt's been a month since my last post.. And boy what a month it have been! We (Hege and I) started our summer holiday in warm and sunny Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. For 14 amazing days we dived, snorkeled, rode on a camel, watched the pyramids, ate, drank and relaxed. Pure bliss. We spent the first week by the Red Sea taking the Padi Open Water diving certificate. The course was lots of fun, and we went straight into the water the first day… Even at shallow water the fish life was breathtaking. And that was only the beginning… After the first week we where joined by my good friend and world traveler Geir Olav. He have been diving for quite some time and had decided to join us after we finished our open water course. Together we spent the second week of our holiday diving, and we managed to get a total of 12 dives during our two weeks in Sharm el Sheik. The dives at the Ras Mohamed national park was one of the best experiences I've ever had. We took tons of pictures, check them out over at my Flickr page. We also found time for a one day trip to Cairo and the Giza Pyramids. It's a 1000km drive (6-7 hours each way), but well worth the drive.

After two amazing week in Egypt we spend a couple of days in Oslo where we had tickets for the Metalilca concert. James Hetfield and the guys in Metalica are getting older (but if possible better) than ever before. The concert was amazing, and they played all the good old songs, including classics like One, Master of Puppets, Sad but true, Nothing else matters and many other hits.

gjedde.jpgAfter the Metalica concert we flew up to Lakselv where I grew up. It's far above the arctic circle and is an amazing place for outdoor activities and fishing. For the last one and a half week I've been fly fishing more or less constantly, both for arctic salmon in the river and brown trout in the mountains. We had a really nice five day trip far into the mountains to a remote, but still quite famous brown trout river. The weather was a bit cold, so there wasn't much insect life on the water source, but we managed to catch a few nice fishes. I've uploaded a few pictures from the trip to my Flickr site.

Today I'm off to a new adventure. The family is driving down to Steigen to meet family and friends. It's my first time down there, and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully the weather will be good enough for some sea trout fishing down there.

After a short week in Steigen I'll go to Lakselv for another week for fishing before It's time to end the possible best (and longest?) summer holiday I can remember. I'll be back in Trondheim on the evening 05. august, and start in my new job at Capgemini Monday 6th. My fingers are itching to spend more time at the keyboard and to write code. By the time I'm back in Trondheim beta 2 of Visual Studio 2008 will hopefully be available, and I'll be spending most of my spare time working on my Visual Studio 2008 and LINQ to SQL presentations.

Until then I wish you all a nice summer!
