Friday the FreeSMS gadget stopped working because of an update on the Ung1881 site. This is something that can happen when you're using screen scraping and are depending on the HTML structure or the name of the form values. Thankfully the update was a minor one, which just changed the name of some of the form values. I've updated the SMS library and the sidebar gadget using the library.

I was a little too eager to publish the first version, so it didn't include any update functionality, so there is no way I can notify my current users that there is an important update available. However if you download the latest version (1.0.0.3) you'll get notifications on any new releases. I've version checking by downloading an XML version info file from my blog, and comparing it to the current version of the gadget. I've included a code snippet showing you how to do version checking.

I've gotten lots of great feedback on the gadget the last couple of weeks, and it currently has 914 downloads on gallery.live.com! Last week I peeked over the shoulder of two girls at campus who both where using the gadget. It's inspiring to work on something you know people use and appreciate.
